Best of the Best 2013: Production Boats: Pershing 82

Danielle Cutler

Like its predecessor, the successful Pershing 80, the Pershing 82 (+39.0721.956211, www.pershing-yacht.com) benefits from svelte styling by the designer Fulvio De Simoni in partnership with the design and engineering divisions of the Ferretti Group, Pershing’s parent company. But the new boat, which debuted in the United States in February, one-ups the 80 with expanded amenities that include a sundeck. The bonus deck—accessed via a hydraulic carbon-fiber stairway that drops down into the aft seating area—is outfitted with loungers and offers a large sun pad for lounging. Additional spaces for sunning and dining are available on the 82’s main deck aft. A sunroof over the main-deck wheelhouse, in conjunction with full-length windows and a retractable aft door, creates a sunny, wide-open living area, adorned with stylish sofas by Pershing’s longtime collaborator Poltrona Frau. Belowdecks, four cabins accommodate eight guests. (Owners have the option to use one of the cabins as a media room, which is the standard configuration for versions of the boat sold in the United States.) Dual MTU engines propel the Pershing 82 to a 45-knot top speed; at a 38-knot cruising speed, the boat has a range of 320 nautical miles.
