The drop-dead-gorgeous AC 378 GT Zagato sports car, initially unveiled in 2009 as the Perana Z-one and shown last year by AC Cars at the Geneva Motor Show, is finally available in America. The Italian coachbuilder Zagato crafts the composite body; the rest of the car, except for the power train, is finished in South Africa by Hi-Tech Automotive, the builder of the impressive Superformance Cobra and GT40.
The 2013 378 GT’s steel-tube frame is designed around a 6.2-liter Chevrolet V-8 engine. (The engine’s 378 cu in displacement is the source of the car’s name.) The car’s front-mid-engine layout creates a nearly 50/50 weight distribution, which in turn leads to excellent handling. With a curb weight of less than 3,300 pounds and an engine that, depending on the package selected, can easily exceed 600 hp, the 378 GT delivers blistering performance. The car is priced from $150,000 and available through AC Zagato West, in Santa Monica, Calif., which delivers the car in turnkey condition, with exterior, interior, and drivetrain finished to the buyer’s specifications.
