BEST of the BEST 2014 | Journeys | Resorts: Amanoi

  • Daniel Scheffler

Wedged between the forest-covered hills and shimmering bays of Nui Chua National Park, Amanoi (+84.68.377.0777, www.amanresorts.com) looks out to some of Vietnam’s most postcard-worthy surroundings. Guests at the Jean-Michel Gathy–designed Amanresorts property, which opened in September, can admire the scenery from the privacy of 36 temple-like pavilion suites and villas that pair traditional Vietnamese architecture with minimalist interiors. All of the rooms open to sprawling terraces, many of which include infinity-edge swimming pools. A 165-foot saltwater pool is a highlight of the resort’s beach club, while the high point of the resort itself is a 20,000-square-foot spa that is exceptional even by Aman standards. Dining options include the cliffside Central Pavilion Restaurant, where traditional sweet-and-spicy Vietnamese cuisine and Mediterranean fare are accompanied by infinite views of the East Sea. ($900–$9,000)
