BEST of the BEST 2014 | Wings & Water | Megayachts: Palmer Johnson Lady M

  • Danielle Cutler

A 210-foot aluminum semi-displacement trideck, Palmer Johnson Lady M (920.746.6342 or 754.581.3238, www.palmerjohnson.com) combines the comfort of a custom megayacht with the speed and power of a sport yacht. Italy’s Nuvolari Lenard designed the vessel, giving it sleek, powerful, and elegant lines. The yacht’s 31-foot beam and three decks provide space for six staterooms, which accommodate 12 guests and include a full-beam VIP suite and a main-deck master suite that has its own gym and a fold-down terrace.

Guests will find all the usual trappings of a megayacht—an alfresco bar, sun loungers, and a beach deck—and a few surprising items, such as the glass-walled main-deck freshwater hot tub, the tender garage that fills with salt water when vacant and becomes an 11,000-gallon swimming pool, and the teak foredeck that can serve as a touch-and-go helipad. The cozy interior, also designed by Nuvolari Lenard, features limed-oak floors and light fabrics complemented by splashes of color and hand-painted wallpaper. A feline design motif appears throughout the yacht, including the prow, which is adorned with a 6-foot-long aluminum figure of a jaguar.

Lady M is powered by two MTU 16V 4000 M93L engines that, coupled with the yacht’s aerodynamic shape, enable a maximum speed of 28 knots and a transatlantic range.
