The 40-minute flight from Male International Airport to Cheval Blanc Randheli passes over a spectacular patchwork of fringing reefs, white sands, and infinite shades of blue in the Indian Ocean. But guests aboard the Maldivian resort’s nine-passenger seaplane—a taupe-and-yellow Twin Otter de Havilland—may be equally taken with their immediate environs, where gratis pairs of custom Maison espadrilles ease the stroll to plush seats wrapped in Italian calf leather.

Such attention to detail is to be expected of the experience at Cheval Blanc Randheli, which opened in November as the second property from the French luxury conglomerate LVMH. Set in the Maldives’ Noonu atoll, the 45-villa resort surpasses the archetypal beach accommodations with craftsman-quality homes that feature cathedral-style ceilings, muted rattan and bamboo furnishings, and full-size private swimming pools.

Essential to each villa is the service of a majordome, or butler, who can arrange everything from a complimentary spa treatment to help with jet lag to such outdoor excursions as sailing and scuba diving. Highlights of the resort’s five dining outlets include Le 1947 (named for Château Cheval Blanc’s revered vintage) and Le Diptyque (serving Japanese and Iberian cuisine).
