A bicycle company that has catered mainly to urban commuters now offers a model for riders whose journeys take them out of the city and off the road. The Budnitz No. 2M Mountain ( is the first mountain bike from the Burlington, Vt.–based company. The No. 2M features Budnitz’s signature greaseless carbon belt drive (instead of a chain) and shock-absorbing cantilever frame, which in this case eliminates the need for (and the weight of) shock absorbers. With a titanium frame, the bike weighs just 18 pounds and has a starting price of $4,800.
