Rimba Jimbaran Bali

Sue Wallace

From its hillside setting above the Indian Ocean, the new Rimba Jimbaran Bali affords front-row views of the Indonesian island’s blood-red sunsets. The 282-room resort, which opened in September on the Karang Mas Estate, shares the vantage with its sister property, Ayana Resort and Spa. A fresh complement to Ayana—a larger, traditional-Balinese-style hotel—Rimba presents a sleek and modern alternative at the 190-acre estate located along Jimbaran Bay.
Visitors enter the resort through a striking lobby where wood-paneled walls fashioned from recycled fishing boats still bear barnacles from their seafaring days. Contemporary furnishings and floor-to-ceiling windows accent the guest rooms and suites, 11 of which feature patios with direct access to one of the resort’s six multi-tier pools.
Above water, two restaurants—including Indonesia’s largest Chinese eatery—and a cooking school tempt gourmands, while a rooftop bar and spa-treatment rooms encourage revelry and recovery. Guests who opt to explore the neighboring Ayana can visit that resort’s secluded Kuba beach, Thermes Marins Spa, seven restaurants, and the Rock Bar, where crowds gather nightly for Bali’s sunsets.
