Rosewood Abu Dhabi
The Rosewood Abu Dhabi sits in the heart of the emirate’s budding financial district, on the man-made island of Al Maryah. But unlike Al Maryah—whose unfilled channels, unfinished bridges, and developing infrastructure remain works in progress—the new hotel is a polished retreat that leaves little to be desired.
Opened in May, the Rosewood is set within the 281-acre urban island’s Sowwah Square district. Though quaint by Emirati standards, the 320-room hotel abounds with such amenities as a 19,375-square-foot spa (with nine treatment rooms and a hammam lined with bronze mosaic tiles) and nine restaurants and lounges. Interiors by the New York–based firm BBG-BBGM are warm and eclectic, balancing Middle Eastern extravagance with minimalist furnishings.
In the Rosewood’s spacious, butler-serviced guest rooms, floor-to-ceiling windows overlook the Persian Gulf and nearby Saadiyat and Al Reem Islands. For now, at least, the view might also encompass some of Al Maryah’s works in progress. But if the Rosewood is any indication, the island itself could be a spectacular sight in the near future.
