Front Runners August 2015: Writing the High Note

  • The Montblanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition 98.

The most exclusive piece in the new collection honoring the Italian tenor, the Montblanc Patron of Art Luciano Pavarotti Limited Edition 98 (montblanc.com) sports a red-lacquer guilloche barrel overlaid with an 18-karat-gold skeletonized depiction of a Chinese dragon. The design is a reference to Giacomo Puccini’s opera Turandot, which is set in ancient China and is the source of Pavarotti’s signature aria, “Nessun dorma.” A jasmine flower carved from white jade is mounted on the top of the cap, and an engraved image of Pavarotti adorns the 18-karat-gold nib. The pen will be limited to 98 pieces—a nod to the year that Pavarotti received the Grammy Legend Award.
