Opened in 2008 by four businessmen from Puerto Rico, Villa Aquamare differs from its neighbors in that it is more of a private compound than a resort. The development does not include a members’ club, a spa, restaurants, or other resort-style amenities. Rather, Aquamare brings such services to the villas themselves.
Set on 1.75 acres along Mahoe Bay on the southwestern shore of Virgin Gorda, the compound comprises only three 8,000-square-foot villas and a small concierge house. The villas—designed by the Swedish architect Liselott Johnsson—overlook the Sir Francis Drake Channel and Aquamare’s private beach park. Each villa includes three master suites, one double room, one junior suite, and a number of terraces and outdoor living areas bordered by serene gardens and an infinity pool.
Each of the villas is also equipped with a spa suite, complete with a 9-by-12-foot marble bath and an outdoor shower. Aquamare’s concierge staff can arrange for massage treatments in the space, yoga sessions on the balconies, and a host of other services that range from private chefs to scuba-diving excursions.
The Aquamare compound is available for purchase either as a whole (three villas and the concierge house) for $16.5 million or as individual villas. The beachfront villa is priced at $6.5 million, with the other two residences at $4.75 million apiece. A permit also has been granted to build a fourth villa on the land adjacent to the concierge house.
