Best of the Best 2012: Pens: Wood: Graf von Faber-Castell Pen of the Year 2012

<< Back to Robb Report, 24th Annual Best of the Best

Although Faber-Castell’s history spans more than 250 years, the German maker of pens and pencils continues to innovate. In recent years, it introduced the notable Graf von Faber-Castell line of high-end writing instruments, including the Pen of the Year collection, which incorporates novel materials such as mammoth ivory and stingray leather. The Pen of the Year 2012, the 10th edition of the series, features German marshland oak, a rare wood preserved for centuries in bogs and swamps. Its deeply patterned contours are embellished with layer upon layer of gold leaf applied with a fine, squirrel-hair brush, resulting in a luminous gold-grain finish. The 2012 edition ($4,695) is limited to 1,500 examples. (216.643.4660, www.graf-von-faber-castell.com)
