This Buben & Zörweg Showcase Safe is Fireproof, Bulletproof, and Beautiful

And, yes, it has a laser-triggered alarm…

The German artisan safe builder Buben & Zörweg has taken the concept of “look, but don’t touch” to a new level with its latest security solution, the Buben & Zörweg Private Museum. Crafted from modular sections of fireproof stainless steel and security glass, the nearly 882-pound, bulletproof installation allows valuable possessions to be simultaneously protected and displayed in plain sight.

One of three available viewing-glass types, the two-way-mirror option allows such contents as a prized sculpture or painting to be visible only after the Private Museum’s lighting system has been engaged. Equipped with fire-resistant glass, the safe becomes a haven for important documents as well. The nearly inch-thick transparent glass can withstand up to 100 blows from a sledgehammer. When the window is open, the black velour interior—which measures approximately 31.5 by 50.5 by 19.5 inches—can be guarded by a laser-grid alarm able to sync with the home’s security system. The safe also employs Buben & Zörweg’s patented fingerprint locking system, which is certified by VdS, Germany’s independent fire-protection and security-inspection service.

Introduced at Baselworld 2015, the Buben & Zörweg Private Museum will be available in the fall for a base price of $92,700. (buben-zorweg.com)
