From Russia, With Love

Film lovers and Russian avant-garde aficionados alike should take note of the offering from the personal collection of author Susan Pack, an authority on film posters, which comprises 280 rare Russian film posters from the mid-1920s through the 1930s. The posters were amassed over a 20-year period, creating the broadest collection of posters in this category that exists in private hands.

“This collection is truly unique in its size, scope, and historical relevance,” says Mickey Ross, whose art company The Ross Art Group Inc. is acting as agent for the seller. Ross believes the collection is best suited for a private collector or museum with means to showcase the collection in its entirety. Although the posters were designed by Russian graphic designers and artists, the depictions are often of American films starring notable actors of the time, including Charlie Chaplin, Mary Pickford, and Buster Keaton. The collection, currently stored in an art warehouse in New York, is available for private viewing by appointment only.

Interested buyers may submit a proposal stating an intended purchase amount, although Ross says the collection is expected to fetch upwards of $4 million. (www.rossartgroup.com)
