FrontRunner: New Flame

<< Back to Robb Report, Car of the Year 2006

The quest for fire takes a sophisticated turn with this month’s debut of Luminesse Sculptures, a new collection of oil lamps from Los Angeles model/designer Dayna Decker (866.586.3847, www.daynadecker.com). Priced from $200 to $500, the lamps feature minimalist rosewood and white laminate pedestals that range from 4.75 to 10.75 inches tall and from 5.75 to 13 inches wide. When lit, the lamps’ wicks do more than merely flicker; they crackle, thanks to a patent-pending technology that also gives their flames a horizontal appearance. Decker’s plant-derived lamp oil, available in three scents, burns without emitting the chemicals associated with petroleum-based oils, ensuring that only the most environmentally friendly of sparks will fly.
