WHAT: The Greening Our Children benefit provides funding for the Mount Sinai Children’s Environmental Health Center (CEHC), which conducts research to identify the environmental causes of childhood diseases and find solutions that protect children’s health. “Rates of chronic childhood diseases including autism, cancer, and diabetes are rising, a trend attributable to environmental factors rather than to genetics because the genetic pool does not change this rapidly,” says Alexandra Bergstein, CEHC chairman of the board and chairman of Greening Our Children. “Environmental factors are largely preventable, so this is a public health crisis we can actually solve.”
