Circa 1881 and John Barrett Present New York City Master Photographers Exhibit

Chuck Close, Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Mario Testino and Andy Warhol, and more

NEW YORK – Circa 1881 and John Barrett present Masters and Muses, an installation celebrating master photographers and their muses. Masters and Muses is on view at John Barrett’s newly opened 54 Bond Street salon and features nine works by some of today’s most recognized, admired and collected artists: Chuck Close, Sante D’Orazio, Russell James, Steven Klein, Annie Leibovitz, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn, Mario Testino and Andy Warhol.

This installation is the inaugural project of Circa 1881’s partnership with John Barrett to produce rotating art exhibitions for its New York City locations, including upcoming exhibitions at the John Barrett’s 56th Street Mansion and One World Trade Center transportation hub locations. Each exhibition is comprised of artworks on loan from Circa 1881’s vast Lending Library.

Founded by an art collector, Alvaro Leal, Circa 1881 is dedicated to bringing blue-chip artworks from private collections into public view. Thus, Circa 1881 has created a “Lending Library” comprised of works of all media by leading artists from various private collections, which are available for loan to private companies, public institutions and specific projects.

About Circa 1881

Circa 1881 curates art exhibitions for non-profit institutions and private companies interested in displaying world-class contemporary art in their public spaces. The exhibited artworks are borrowed from Circa 1881’s Lending Library, consisting of inventory from private collections it has under management. Circa 1881’s name is an art historical reference to the French government’s withdrawal of support for the Salon de Paris, which gave artists a new independence that ultimately ushered in the modern art movement.
