Artemide’s Mercury Cluster ceiling lamp

<< Back to Robb Report, Top Winter Retreats

Objects that appear to be chrome pebbles hang from an aluminum disk on Artemide’s new Mercury Cluster ceiling lamp (877.278.3933, www.artemide.us), which was built for the Italian lighting firm by British industrial designer Ross Lovegrove. Lovegrove formed the objects from thermoplastic and hung them at varying heights; the lower-hanging pieces are affixed with halogen bulbs that cast light up and onto the higher ones, which in turn reflect the light around and back down into the room. The standard nine-pebble lamp is priced at $2,500, but Artemide can produce custom versions of the Mercury Cluster—with hundreds of pebbles—that cost tens of thousands of dollars.
