Montana-based Caste Designs creates spare, almost spider-like tables and other unusual furnishings made from found objects, wood, and metal. Montana’s vast open spaces and down-to-earth attitude inspire Caste founder Ty Best’s designs, which are handmade by local artisans and then finished by Best. Despite their agrarian beginnings, the pieces exude a refined aesthetic that recently caught the eye of interior designer Kara Mann: Caste is now available exclusively through the Kara Mann showroom in Chicago. “My clients want interiors that look timeless but that have unexpected, gutsy elements, too,” she says. Prices start at $200 for accessories and go up to about $40,000 for large sculptural pieces. (www.karamann.com, www.castedesign.us)
