Robb Design Portfolio: Made to Treasure

For its new line of tableware, Italian fashion house Stefano Ricci (212.371.3901, www.stefanoricci.com) applied the same attention to detail and artisan craftsmanship that it bestows on its sartorial goods. Like its clothing and accessories, Stefano Ricci’s Royal Suite collection of china, flatware, and tabletop accoutrements—conceived three years ago but introduced just last year as a comprehensive series—is handcrafted by Italian artisans, many of whom employ Florentine techniques dating to the Renaissance. Fine bone china plates (Brown Cashmere style shown) feature hand-applied 24-karat-gold or platinum detailing; voluptuous silver goblets are hand-hammered by third- and fourth-generation craftspeople; and gold-plated silver flatware (above) is finished using the traditional Italian graffiatura technique, whereby the metal is repeatedly grazed to produce a satiny finish. And just as Stefano Ricci offers its bespoke menswear service, the company will customize its tableware in an array of patterns, finishes, and materials.
