Southern Exposure: High Point Furniture and Decor Market

Robb Report editors pick their favorites from the North Carolina show...

Twice a year—in April and October—the town of High Point, N.C., surrenders its serenity and easy Southern amble to become the most innovative place for furniture and home decor. The city (with a population of just over 100,000) swells with the addition of nearly 80,000 market-going professionals taking part in a ritual that has endured for more than a century. The High Point Market now covers 11.5 million square feet of show space spread over 180 buildings, and attendance in April rose 2.5 percent over last spring’s edition. Displays from more than 2,000 exhibitors and a captive audience of buyers, trend scouts, and creatives added to the boisterous, Southern-charmed atmosphere. Many came to catch a glimpse of high-wattage design names such as Michael Berman, Thom Filicia, Kelly Wearstler, and even country music artist Trisha Yearwood, all of whom presented collections and new additions—offering a glamorous preview to what debuts in showrooms this fall, or sooner with any luck. Reflecting upon the spring market, Robb Report Home & Style has selected a few standouts, each one worth noting and savoring . . . until the October market arrives. (
