The Ultimate Partner Desk

Romeo Sozzi, the designing patriarch of the Lake Como–based furniture family that owns Promemoria, has unveiled Giacomo, an elegant modern take on the iconic partner desk. Originally invented for English banking partners in the 19th century, the desk has rarely been interpreted with such understated sumptuousness. Made of solid hardwoods and rare wood veneers—sucupira and morado (from Brazil), oak, zebrawood, and others—it features leather-lined drawers with soft-close mechanisms and countersunk pulls, as well as a cast statuary-bronze connector with bookshelves. The desk is also available as a single and in a more petite version (three drawers with a slender leg at the other end). All materials and finishes can be customized, and prices range from about $13,400 (smaller version in zebrawood) to over $80,000 (partner desk in ebony). (646.588.4409, www.promemoria.com)
