Strange and Beautiful Items Up for Sale at Christie’s Out of the Ordinary Auction

Christie’s Out of the Ordinary auction, taking place September 3 at its London South Kensington branch, promises to be just what it says—out of the ordinary. “We try to provide unique and surprising lots, from the historically important to the downright wacky,” says Celia Harvey, head of the sale. “As specialists, we really enjoy putting the sale together.” Last year’s inaugural version of this wildly diverse cabinet of curiosities topped $2 million, a total strong enough to demand a sequel. Its top lot was a triceratops skull from Montana that fetched about $302,000; and the 2014 lineup is equally tantalizing. What follows are some of lots that caught our attention. (www.christies.com)
