Layering on the outerwear may keep you warm and dry in changing weather conditions while navigating the greens, but it’s not always great for the golf swing. In its ongoing effort to create functional attire for the golfer, FootJoy, the 154-year-old Fairhaven, Mass.-based golf shoe maker, introduced a collection of performance-driven outerwear featuring the brand’s exclusive FJ Layering System. The three-piece concept includes a skin-tight base layer, a loose-fitting half-zip mid layer, and a short-sleeved rainproof outer layer. All of the garments are made from thin, stretchable, breathable, and antimicrobial materials, including FootJoy’s own ProDry Performance and DryJoys Performance, which work in collaboration to regulate body temperature without hampering arm movement during a golf swing.
Although FootJoy has produced its patented DryJoys Performance outerwear since 1997, the company’s new FJ Layering System was introduced this spring following an exhaustive multiyear study among more than 100 touring golf professionals, including Steve Stricker, who tested the pieces at last year’s Open Championship at St. Andrews, and Bill Haas, current champion of the Bob Hope Classic. “The entire new line was developed by golfers, therefore no matter what conditions you encounter on the golf course, you can comfortably and confidently adjust your layers for maximum performance,” explains FootJoy apparel marketing director Whitney Trimble.
