FrontRunners: Hermès

At first glance, the pieces in the Hermès Haute Bijouterie (www.hermes.com) jewelry collection appear modern and striking. A closer study reveals that the rings, necklaces, and bracelets also embody the brand’s familiar equestrian motif. The 14-piece collection represents the first foray into fine jewelry for the French luxury-goods company, which began as a saddle maker in the mid-19th century. The collection includes a platinum necklace set with 3,669 diamonds that evokes a whip around the wearer’s neck, and Centaure rings—made of rose gold and set with black jade, orange aventurine, pavé diamonds, or pink opal—that are shaped like horse, or centaur, hooves. Several of the collection’s necklaces and bracelets also feature horse-hoof designs. Each piece is available by special order, and prices start at about $25,200, for a Centaure ring.
