Edward Green’s new Top Drawer shoe collection (www.edwardgreen.com) is made-to-order, as opposed to fully bespoke, but a pair still takes six to seven months to complete. Why the wait? The British company says it is difficult to find craftsmen with the skills to draft the shoe’s waist and heel and to create the sculptural designs. You can customize the color and lining of Top Drawer shoes (from $1,800) and have your name written inside each one. Plus, Edward Green inscribes all of its footwear with serial numbers that it keeps in its files. The files recently came in handy when an American client with a pair of 25-year-old shoes requested a new set, which the shoemaker made—in about six months.
