The first full Brunello Cucinelli suit collection (www.brunellocucinelli.com) proves that the designer who made his name with fabulously plush sportswear is equally adept at making fine tailored clothing. The collection exemplifies his commitment to traditional Italian craftsmanship: Cucinelli acquired the ateliers of d’Avenza, which have been making tailored clothing outside Tuscany for more than 50 years, to construct the line’s 60 slim-fitting suits.

The styles range broadly, from double-breasted to single-button, but all feature Cucinelli’s signature tailoring: slim enough to accentuate the physique, with a prominent shoulder and narrow waist, but relaxed enough to be comfortable and allow for ease of movement. Each suit, priced from $3,500 to $4,500, is made from a luxurious fabric, including lightweight flannels and soft cashmere blends. The elegant patterns include this original take on the classic Prince of Wales check.
