David Chu believes that it is not just clothes that make the man, but also what you pack those clothes in. “How you travel is an extension of your personality,” says Chu, the executive creative director for the luggage and accessories company Tumi, “and a good-looking bag—polished and of premium quality—speaks of confidence, power, and style.”
The new Tumi Townhouse collection (www.tumi.com) makes such a statement with trunks and boxes, as well as bags. The line—modeled after luggage from the 1920s and ’30s, when transatlantic steamer journeys represented the height of luxury travel—comprises the hatbox and wardrobe trunks shown here ($2,500 to $7,000 apiece), and a briefcase, satchel, and wheeled case. Select pieces are upholstered in tan cloth; the hatbox is available only in black ballistic nylon trimmed with leather.
