The new three-story Isaia store on Madison Avenue is unlike any other New York men’s shop. Customers will find a sleek 1940s pool table; a shiny, red-lacquer piano; a vintage bar; and a terrace overlooking the avenue. Of course, the rooms also are lined with a stylish array of the brand’s colorful suits and shirts, as well as cozy sweaters and topcoats. “I wanted the store to feel like home, where our clients will want to come and spend time, perhaps have a drink and play pool,” says Gianluca Isaia, the company’s CEO and grandson of Enrico Isaia, who founded the Neapolitan brand in the 1920s.
Arriving from Naples to greet his guests on the store’s opening night, Gianluca wore a bright-blue patterned suit paired with his signature leather sandals, red eyeglasses, and a coral bead necklace. He exudes an enviable casual elegance that prompts many of his clients to seek his style advice—and now clients do not have to trek to Isaia’s shops in Milan or Capri to dress like him. With newly opened stores in Tokyo, Beverly Hills, and New York, Isaia’s trained sales team and tailors are accessible and ready to help customers create off-the-rack or made-to-measure wardrobes. “We want to help men find their own sense of style and elegance,” he says.
Within the new Madison Avenue store, the Isaia lifestyle abounds. Furnishings and objects for the decor were shipped from Naples; master tailors are at work behind glass walls, viewable to customers; and never-before-seen styles of clothing and accessories, exclusive to the New York location, line the shelves. Even the newest pieces exhibit Isaia’s exceptional tailoring, contemporary flair, and unexpected patterns, colors, and textures. Whether men come for the clothes, a consultation, or simply a strong espresso, they can expect to find a staff of exceptionally dressed men with a friendly Neapolitan manner who offer great style advice.
