Never Have Loose Eyewear Ever Again

After 4 years of development, an Icelandic optician’s frustration has borne glasses without screws…

Eyewear in the new Allied Metal Works collection (alliedmetalworks.com) features a patent-pending titanium spring and no screws. Four years in development, the flexible yet durable sunglasses and ophthalmic frames ($480–$710) are the creation of the Icelandic optician Gunnar Gunnarsson, who grew tired of fixing frames with loose or missing screws; Bill Barton, CEO of the fashionable eyewear brand Barton Perreira, is a cofounder and co-owner of Allied Metal Works. Though practical in form and function, the company’s frames don’t sacrifice style. They are available in a range of sleek designs, including acetate-and-stainless-steel models (shown) and more futuristic-looking all-stainless-steel examples.
