When fashion designer Tom Ford (212.359.0300, www.tomford.com) enlisted the Italian clothier Ermenegildo Zegna in 2006 to produce his suits, he chose the right partner. Zegna builds every Ford suit with personalized details—hand-knotted buttonholes, silk-sewn seams, extra-wide hand-sewn lapels, button-cuffed trousers—that have become the designer’s signature. More than the sum of their fine English fabrics and superior Italian construction, Ford suits are also noteworthy for their bold silhouettes. This year’s cutting-edge designs include a shapely version of the classic three-piece ensemble—a two-piece suit with a matching fitted waistcoat—and the Falconer, a 1960s-?influenced suit distinguished by slim, streamlined peak lapels and slightly sloping shoulders.
