Visionary Glasses

Manhattan-based designer and optician Nader Zadi, known for sourcing vintage eyewear frames from the early 1900s and reshaping them into innovative bespoke frames, has released a series of limited-edition sunglasses inspired by the uniquely colored ametrine gemstone, a hybrid of amethyst and citrine. The softly colored lenses are modeled after the gemstone’s naturally occurring color pattern—a gradation of lavender, yellow, and peach; they are of ophthalmic quality and have been coated with a UV filter. Each of the seven pairs of glasses are made entirely by hand from repurposed 14-karat gold frames (circa 1930), featuring ornate filigree etched into the bridge and temples. It takes from four to six weeks to make the glasses, which are $4,795. (212.249.5609, www.rareframes.com)
