Prada-Owned Car Shoe Delivers Made-to-Order Driving Shoes

The shoes can be customized by choosing from four types of leather available in over 30 colors…

In 1963, the Italian shoemaker Gianni Mostile received a patent for his unique invention—a leather moccasin with perforated rubber stubs on the soles. That original design became the launching pad for the Italian brand Car Shoe, which is solely focused on creating shoes made specifically to be worn while driving. Just in time for Men’s Fashion Week in Milan, the brand is unveiling a made-to-order project that gives clients the opportunity to create customized pairs of driving shoes by choosing from four leathers (ostrich, cordovan, crocodile, and centered crocodile) and over 30 colors.

Crafted in Europe’s finest tanneries, the shoes are hand-stitched by skilled artisans who use over 160 stitches for each intricately made pair of moccasins. Every pair of made-to-order shoes can be previewed on in-store tablets prior to purchase. The shoes, which retail for approximately $1,800, can be purchased at Car Shoe boutiques; now helmed by Prada, Car Shoe has boutiques in Milano, Capri, Singapore, Rome, Hong Kong, London, Dubai, and Forte Dei Marmi.
