Wardrobe Essential: The Stylish Sneaker

Once confined to the street, the everyday sneaker has been transformed into a versatile and fashionable shoe that is appearing with more than just casual wear and is even seen as a counterpart to the slim, contemporary suit.

The stylish sneaker has emerged as a bestseller at Saks Fifth Avenue for spring, appealing to men of all ages. “This new crop of dressy sneakers allows guys to express their personal style in a way that’s both fashionable and comfortable,” says Eric Jennings, the company’s vice president and fashion director of menswear. “It’s a staple this spring simply for its versatility.”

With dozens of alternatives in suede, leather, and alligator, it’s important to know your limits when choosing one, says Jennings. “Remember that the idea is to look casual and polished at the same time.”
