The Best of the Best 2003: Jewelry – Taffin

“Jewelry can be colorful, large, and fun without appearing pretentious,” declares James Taffin de Givenchy, whose designs undoubtedly fit this description. His Taffin collection is sold exclusively from his Madison Avenue salon in New York City.

Among his bold new creations is a rare 22-carat old mine-cut diamond ring that is set with four mandarin garnets as prongs. Few designers would dare to place bright orange gems directly on a large, classic white diamond. Givenchy, however, is known for his imaginative approach to jewelry design. “I try to discover new solutions to setting gemstones,” he says.

His one-of-a-kind creations typically begin with one exceptional gem. He prefers vibrant stones—such as fire opals, red spinels, or peridots—in large sizes and unique cuts.
