Chopard Takes the High Road with Its L.U.C. Tourbillon Qualité Fleurier Fairmined

The new wristwatch is the first in the world to include only Fairmined-certified gold…

In an effort to promote ethical mining practices, Chopard has released the L.U.C. Tourbillon Qualité Fleurier Fairmined, the world’s first watch to be made from gold that has received Fairmined certification. Created by the Alliance for Responsible Mining, the Fairmined standard requires that gold be extracted by artisanal and small-scale mining communities that guarantee safe working conditions, fair pay for miners, no link to conflict situations, and environmentally friendly practices. Chopard has further committed itself to improving mining and the communities it supports by helping operations in South America—such as the Coodmilla cooperative in Colombia’s Nariño region—achieve Fairmined certification.

The L.U.C. Tourbillon Qualité Fleurier Fairmined is equipped with a dark satin-brushed ruthenium dial that contrasts with its gilded hands. A one-minute tourbillon is visible through an aperture at 6 o’clock, while a nine-day power-reserve indicator is positioned at 12 o’clock. A testament to Chopard’s watchmaking capabilities, the timepiece has been officially certified as a chronometer and has undergone rigorous testing by the Fleurier Quality Foundation. The L.U.C. Tourbillon Qualité Fleurier Fairmined will be limited to just 25 pieces worldwide and is priced at roughly $145,000. (800.246.7273, www.us.chopard.com)
