Private Preview 2005: Trailblazers

<< Back to Robb Report, Private Preview

The Vacheron Constantin Patrimony series of watches will pay homage to history while exploring new ways of telling time. Part of the series will be dedicated to eight of the great explorers of the last millennium. Two watches will be produced each year for four years. The first pair, which will debut in March 2005, will honor Ferdinand Magellan and Chinese explorer Zheng He. A split-level dial with the familiar antique-style map in painted, oven-fired enamel will be the stage for an even more extraordinary mechanical drama. Numbers representing the hour will glide into view and sweep across numerals indicating the minutes, and will then sail over the edge of the world. The unusual pieces, priced at $65,000, will be extremely limited, so collectors should begin their own reconnaissance as soon as possible.
