Delaire Graff Estate (+27.21.8858160, www.delaire.co.za) combines the sophistication of a five-star city hotel with the privacy, solitude, and beauty of the resort’s setting among the vineyards of Stellenbosch, South Africa.
Opened last June, about an hour’s drive from Cape Town, Delaire Graff Estate has just 10 accommodations, each of which is a stand-alone lodge with a private pool looking out to vine-covered hills and jagged peaks. Indoors and out, the resort displays artwork from the collection of the property’s owner, British jeweler Laurence Graff, including sculptor Dylan Lewis’ life-size cheetahs roaming and relaxing on the estate’s lawn. The property’s Indochine restaurant and bar caters to foodies, with Asian-influenced cuisine served on a large outdoor deck with views of Table Mountain.
Central to the estate is the Delaire winery, with its tasting lounge and David Collins–designed restaurant that serves seafood, artisan cheeses, and meats from local producers. Rounding out the resort’s amenities are a fitness center, a tiny cinema, a spa with four treatment suites, and boutiques from 100% Capri and, of course, Graff Diamonds. ($1,300–$3,750)
