Best of the Best 2016: Journeys | Cruises: Crystal Esprit

With a capacity of 62 guests and a nimble size allowing for off-the-beaten-charts cruising, Crystal Esprit is more intimate superyacht than ocean liner. The newest launch from the acclaimed Crystal Cruises also offers a more youthful atmosphere than many traditional ships, with contemporary nautical decor and such energetic shore excursions as zip-lining and wakeboarding. Passengers can even take a ride underwater in the ship’s deep-sea submersible.

By the Numbers

1.47 to 1: Crew-to-passenger ratio aboard Crystal Esprit. 16: Total hours the ship’s three-person submersible can remain submerged at depths as low as 1,000 feet.  40: The number of endemic trees Crystal Esprit passengers planted on the island of Curieuse during the ship’s Seychelles itineraries earlier this year. 515: Size, in square feet, of the Owner’s Suite, Crystal Esprit’s largest accommodation, which features a separate living room and dining room.  3,341: Weight, in tons, of the ship, allowing for visits to shallow bays and small ports inaccessible to larger vessels.

  • Crystal Esprit’s inaugural itineraries sailed through the Seychelles. The ship will spend the remainder of 2016 plying the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas between Venice and Dubrovnik, with stops in Montenegro and Slovenia.

  • Executive chef Adam Jenkins (formerly of the Ritz London) and his team focus on native ingredients from local ports for the eclectic and elegant menu at the Yacht Club restaurant.

  • Water toys include four Zodiac boats, two personal watercraft, a U-Boat Worx C-Explorer submersible, and a 32-foot Wider sport yacht tender for pleasure cruising.

  • Despite its relatively small size of 31 suites, Crystal Esprit offers such classic cruise amenities as a gym, a sauna, and a casino.
