During a six-month span last year, the Berkeley unveiled two restaurants—Gordon Ramsay’s Boxwood Café and Marcus Wareing’s Pétrus—as well as 45 new bedrooms, a sunflower yellow entrance hall, and the Caramel Room teahouse. Pétrus’ rich claret colors blend into the warm browns of the Caramel Room on the Berkeley’s redesigned ground floor, bursting into the lobby’s striking yellow and cooling to the cerulean hue of David Collins’ Blue Bar, which debuted in 2000 and remains one of London’s most fashionable nightspots. In the guest rooms, warm upholstery colors and gold leaf finishes enrich icy blue walls; Art Deco–style bathrooms feature frosted glass and other contemporary twists. Throughout, the Berkeley achieves a unity of different styles, blending the best of London in one hip, grand dame.
