- Experiencing the beauty of the Taj Mahal as you watch the sunset over this iconic monument from across the river in Agra;
- Learning to cook local delicacies and enjoying dinner with the current custodian of Dera Mandawa Hotel in Jaipur (if he is not available guests will meet with a local family);
- Embarking on a private boat ride along peaceful Lake Pichola, one of the oldest and largest lakes in Rajasthan;
- A rousing tour of Mumbai at dawn where guests will experience the hustle and bustle of the city’s morning routine;
- An intriguing guided visit to Mumbai’s largest slum, Dharavi, to see the entrepreneurs, locals and artisans that still live there today.
This journey will begin in India’s modern capital, Delhi. Guests will get an insider’s look into local customs on a half day haveli tour with a guide who leads the Master Ji Ki tours, during which guests will explore the local markets and bazaars on a walk and rickshaw ride around old Delhi and enjoy lunch at a local haveli, or mansion, with the family who has owned it for generations. While in Delhi guests will be staying at the Oberoi New Delhi in an upgraded executive suite where they will be welcomed with a bottle of Indian Sula Wine to celebrate the start of the trip.
From Delhi guests will depart for Agra where they will check into the Oberoi Amarvilas, located less than a mile from the Taj Mahal. Upon arrival in Agra guests will enjoy hi tea with a local family before embarking on the Kachhpura Heritage walk through agriculture fields and villages arriving just in time to watch the sunset over the Taj Mahal from across the river. Before heading to Jaipur guests will wake to catch one last view of the Taj Mahal as the sun rises.
Once in Jaipur guests will become acquainted with the pink city on a guided walk as they mingle with locals, taste the local delicacies and visit popular street vendors. The next evening is reserved for special cooking demonstration and dinner with Thakur Durga Singh, current custodian of Dera Mandawa hotel. If he is not available travelers will enjoy dinner with a local family. Evenings in Jaipur will be spent at the royal resort, the Oberoi Rajvilas, in a beautiful upgraded luxury tent.
On the seventh day guests will head to Jodhpur, the second largest city in Rajasthan. Guests will spend the next few days discovering this wildly colorful city during tours of Mehrangarh Fort, Jaswant Thada Memorial, and the bustling Clock Tower Market, popular for showcasing a wide range of handicrafts.
The next stop on this journey will be Udaipur. After getting acquainted with the city during guided tours, guests will enjoy a relaxing private boat ride along Lake Pichola to view the City Palace and other historic monuments. While in Udaipur guests will have a choice between a complementary dinner at Zucchini, an Indo-Italian restaurant, or a meeting with a local contemporary artist to discuss Indian art over wine. After days spent exploring, guests will retreat to the Oberoi Udaivilas, located on 200 year old hunting grounds on the bank of Lake Pichola.
The tour will conclude in the bustling city of Mumbai, where guests will stay at the Oberoi Mumbai offering unparalleled views of the ocean.
