Grand Openings: Cliff Hangers

<< Back to Robb Report, Aston Martin’s $2Million One-77

The red-cedar door to your suite at Capella Ixtapa opens not to a room but to a view. After waving your key card and passing through the door, you step onto a thatch-roofed terrace—outfitted with a daybed and a generously sized plunge pool—that looks out to a cluster of small islands in the Pacific Ocean. The cliffside setting and terraced construction of the hotel, which opened in the Mexican resort town of Ixtapa in December, ensure that each of the 59 guest rooms enjoys a similarly impressive vista, as do the property’s spa, gym, two swimming pools, and three restaurants. Stairways and a pair of funiculars help guests navigate the steep terrain, which leads to a rocky beach below. Inside the guest rooms (accessed via sliding glass doors from the terraces), Capella Ixtapa provides flip-flops, sunscreen, beach bags, and straw hats for those who wish to make the descent to the sea. Most of the resort’s cocooning-couple clientele, however, are content simply hanging out on their decks. Capella Ixtapa, +55.755.?555.1100, 877.247.6688, www.capellaixtapa.com
