Alila Villas Uluwatu

<< Back to Robb Report, The Insider’s Las Vegas

In June—two months after the Bali provincial administration placed a temporary moratorium on permits for new hotel construction—Alila Villas Uluwatu opened on the island’s Bukit Peninsula. The resort comprises 84 spacious villas (made from local materials), three restaurants, and a spa with five treatment villas, all nestled into a cliff-top landscape of limestone and native vegetation that requires little or no watering. The 35-acre compound, in fact, is the only resort development in Bukit that does not truck in water. Sustainability efforts extend to the resort’s saltwater infinity pool, which uses a reverse osmosis system. The pool stretches for 50 meters to the edge of a cliff that overlooks the Indian Ocean. Each of the villas also affords ocean views and features a private pool and cabana. Alila Villas Uluwatu, +62.361.848.2166, www.alilahotels.com
