San Miguel is one of the most popular New Year’s Eve celebration spots in Mexico, where the entire historic center becomes a party. And the perfect way to ring in the new year in San Miguel? Savor the sumptuous New Year’s Eve feast at celebrated and edgy Hotel Matilda, then head to the main square for the fireworks show and join the street party.
San Miguel’s stunning 500-year-old center, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, becomes one big party scene on New Year’s Eve with bars open all night, live music, street food and revelers parading through the cobbled lanes.
Themed “Something New,” the creative six-course New Year’s Eve Dinner at Hotel Matilda will be held in the hotel’s Moxi restaurant, which is operated by Mexico’s most famous chef, Enrique Olvera. Following dinner, the wait staff will escort the guests to the nearby main square for the fireworks – and to join the street party.
The New Year’s Eve Dinner is $1,800 pesos per person (about $132), including a bottle of champagne per two people. For those who want to start celebrating early, Moxi is also serving a special Christmas Day Dinner for 900 pesos per person (about $66), or 1,200 pesos (about $88) with wine pairing.
