Private Preview 2005: Each Floor Tells a Story

<< Back to Robb Report, Private Preview

Opening in early 2005 to coincide with the completion of renovations to Madrid’s three major museums, the Hotel Puerta América will be its own work of art. Silken Hotels commissioned 13 architects and designers to create 13 distinct floors for the new structure on the city’s Avenida América. Among the international mix of contributors are Zaha Hadid, Marc Newson, Arata Isozaki, and New York’s Gluckman Mayner Architects. “There were no design parameters aside from the main architectural shell, and we weren’t allowed to see each other’s floors,” says Elena Cannon, project lead for Gluckman Mayner, whose refined industrial design stamps the ninth floor. “It’s a truly original concept.”
