Private Preview 2005: Zen on the Beach

<< Back to Robb Report, Private Preview

Guests arriving at Design Hotels’ Setai resort in Miami’s South Beach may think they are entering just another Art Deco landmark on Collins Avenue. But one glimpse of the grand lobby, richly decorated in Shanghai brick and teak, should quickly reorient them to a location, and mind-set, far to the East. When the Setai opens later this year, calming Asian influences will abound, from the muted colors in the suites to the spa’s Shiatsu massage and Balinese healing therapies. Surrounded by floor-to-ceiling wine cabinets in the sophisticated comfort of the Crustacean restaurant, diners will sample transethnic cuisine. The courtyard’s sunken dining areas, set among tropical gardens and cooling ponds, will offer a deeper privacy. For those determined to completely escape the mundane, the views of the ocean and the Miami skyline from the rooftop pool of the 10,000-square-foot penthouse suite are sure to leave one feeling enlightened.
