Sneak Peek: The Berkeley River, Kimberley Coast, Australia

Located in the wilderness of northwestern Australia, the new Berkeley River resort opened on April 13, bringing luxury to the outback’s Kimberley Coast. Accessible only by air or water, the resort is positioned between Broome and Darwin in a pristine area of the outback. Perched atop coastal dunes, each of the 20 air-conditioned chalets has a private balcony overlooking the Timor Sea or the mouth of the Berkeley River, with its gorgelike ravines and 300-foot-tall precipitous cliffs. Adventures include guided bush and beach walks, heli-fishing for barramundi, and river cruises alongside waterfalls and secluded water holes, or guests can lounge in the library or at the outdoor lap pool. Reaching the remote resort, requires an hourlong plane ride from Kununurra—a service that is part of Berkeley River’s all-inclusive packages, starting at about $3,000, as are tours, activities, and daily meals of fresh-caught fish and produce grown on-site. Packages are per-person and are based on a four-night minimum stay. (+61.8.9169.1330, www.berkeleyriver.com.au)
