The boutique Hotel Ella opens in the oldest neighborhood in Austin, Texas, on October 5.
Why to Go: The young and the young at heart will appreciate Hotel Ella’s location adjacent to West Campus, the most student-dense neighborhood of the college town of Austin. A few blocks from the University of Texas, the hotel is housed in the former home of one of the university’s founders.
What to Expect: The historic home was built in 1900 and was renovated a decade later to house 10 of the hotel’s 48 rooms and suites. In 1925, the lady of the house, Ella Wooten, hired Neiman Marcus to redecorate the home. An annex added in the 1980s contains the other 38 of the hotel’s accommodations. The signature Ella Suite features a queen bed and separate living room. Public spaces include a pool and the all-American Goodall’s Kitchen & Bar.
How to Get There: Three blocks west of the University of Texas and south of its fraternity and sorority houses, Hotel Ella offers transport to Austin’s international airport in 20 minutes via the hotel’s Cadillac Escalade or sedan. (512.495.1800, www.hotelella.com)
