Starting in July, visitors to St. Lucia’s Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort, can explore the Caribbean in a whole new way when the property becomes the first in the world to offer outings on the S1 water bike from Schiller Sports. Inventor Judah Schiller, who was the first person to bike across San Francisco Bay and the Hudson River, designed the unique water toy. It is made from lightweight, super-strong titanium, and blends bicycle and catamaran technologies to create a pedal-driven personal watercraft on pontoons that is stable and easy to ride.
Sugar Beach guests can hire the bikes on their own to pedal around the protected waters between St. Lucia’s iconic peaks, the Pitons (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), enjoying an overhead view of the marine life below through crystal-clear waters—perhaps even stopping to go snorkeling along the way. The resort will also offer instructor-guided spin classes on the water for guests interested in outdoor exercise sessions. And after enjoying a workout at sea, a trip to Sugar Beach’s Rainforest Spa is an ideal way to soothe tired muscles with a massage or to luxuriate in a Native American–style steam bath called a temazcal.
