The Robb Report 100 Resorts: Caribbean & Latin America: Las Alamandas

Las Alamandas, Costa Alegre, Mexico

Las Alamandas’s time should have passed. An “it” spot for the “in” crowd in the 1990s, the casually, intimately, and eccentrically chic Mexican beach resort was destined to become dated, an aging starlet clinging to her past. But that time, if it ever came at all, was short-lived. A recent reinvestment by owner Isabel Goldsmith-Patiño has breathed new life into Las Alamandas, though its incomparable setting—on 1,500 acres along the Costa Alegre—remains unchanged. Empty beaches, coves and lagoons, and mountains marbled with hiking and biking trails are the exclusive domain of resort guests, who reside in one of 16 suites colored with Mexican tiles, fabrics, and folk art. Also a sanctuary for wildlife, Las Alamandas is a haven of privacy, solitude, and space—luxuries that never go out of style. ($371–$2,070) www.alamandas.com
