Cinco de Mayo celebrates the best of Mexico, when in 1862 a determined Mexican army dramatically defeated occupying French forces. On May 5, guests at the Viceroy Zihuatanejo can again celebrate the best of Mexico at a joyous Cinco de Mayo evening at the beachside Coral Bar with innovative, one-of-a-kind mescal and tequila cocktails, the finest Mexican artisanal beers, presentations about traditional Mexican spirits, live Mariachi music, and a Taco Cart with all your favorite trimmings.
The mixologists will tap the surging popularity in Mexico of mescal with the resort’s special creations such as the “Hibiscus-Tini” with agave nectar and red hibiscus flowers or “The Mariachi” with tomato juice, Worcestershire Sauce and the beer of your choice. Favorite tequila drinks will be prepared with fresh mixers, herbs and spices. Among the not-well-known but excellent Mexican artisanal beers served will be Espiga Amber Ale, Mano Pachona, Toro Honey IPA, Teufel and Chela Libre Glu Demon. In addition to mixing up sweet and tangy concoctions, the mixologists will reveal the secrets of Mexico’s now world-famous spirits with special presentations.
Mariachis will serenade throughout the evening, while chefs prepare tacos with a choice of traditional meats, salsas and fillings. When not celebrating Cinco de Mayo, guests can relax on loungers at the beach being pampered by Beach Butlers, indulge in treatments at the Spa Palapa on the sand, engage in a full array of water sports, take everything from yoga to mixed martial arts classes, work out in an air-conditioned fitness center, play tennis on the two hard courts, swim in three pools, go on long walks on the miles of white-sand beach, and dine on exquisite cuisine – including full vegetarian and vegan menus – prepared with the freshest, locally produced natural ingredients.
